Fair questions

The three things you’ll check before you pay us

You’ll come across all three while you’re deciding. Straight answers, so you can weigh them up properly.

HubSpot's certificate is free. Why would I pay?

For a lot of people, they shouldn't — take the free certificate, it is a good one. What it is not is a curriculum. It is a single course of roughly five hours, on one company's view of social, with no placement, no path, and no mechanism that tells you when something it taught you stopped being true. If five hours is what you need, you have just saved £19. If you are trying to get from where you are to running social properly, five hours is not the unit of work.

My library card gets me LinkedIn Learning for nothing.

Then use it — twenty thousand courses for free is a genuinely good deal, and we would rather say so than pretend otherwise. What a general catalogue cannot do is tell you where you currently stand across six skill areas, order the material around that, or tell you the week a specification you have built work on changes. It also contains nothing about the ASA, the CMA, the ICO or the Online Safety Act, because it is not a UK product.

I can buy a CPD-accredited course for under £50.

You can, and hundreds of them exist. The thing to check before you do is when it was last touched — because the same marketplaces sell social media courses recorded years ago, still listed, still selling, with no indication on the page. One UK provider's course page currently advertises monthly updates while still listing Google+ among the platforms it covers. Google+ shut down in 2019. That is the risk you are taking for the £50, and it is the specific risk this platform is built to remove.

Be honest with yourself

What else £19 gets you

OptionTypical costWhat it does wellThe catch
Free videos and posts£0Genuinely useful, and often from people doing the work right now.No order and no way to tell what is current. You find out something was wrong when it stops working.
A one-off online course£15–£200Cheap, structured, and yours forever.Recorded once. The platform specifics start ageing the day it is published, and nobody tells you which parts expired.
A classroom day course£500–£1,000+Focused, and you can ask a human questions. One day, one shot, no follow-up — and you are back where you started when the next change lands.
Hiring an agency£800–£3,000/monthSomeone else does the work. You cannot judge whether they are any good without the knowledge you were trying to avoid acquiring.
The Social Media Academy£19/month, or £149/yearStructured across 28 modules, ordered around your level and goal, with every platform fact re-verified weekly. It is still a subscription, and you still have to do the learning. Nothing here does the posting for you.
Why a subscription and not a one-off? A one-off buys a recording, and a recording starts going stale the day it’s made. The subscription pays for the weekly re-check, which is the only reason any of this is still true in six months, and the reason the changelog has anything in it.
